This data set contains areas that have been designated as Critical Environmental Areas (CEAs) under 6 NYCRR Part 617 - State Environmental Quality Review (SEQR). Local agencies may designate specific geographic areas within their boundaries as a "Critical Environmental Area" (CEA). State agencies may also designate as a CEA a geographic area which they own, manage or regulate. To be designated as a CEA, an area must have an exceptional or unique character which has a benefit or threat to human health, a natural setting (e.g. fish and wildlife habitat, forest and vegetation, open space and areas of important aesthetic or scenic quality), agricultural, social, cultural, historic, archaeological, recreational, or educational values, or an inherent ecological, geological or hydrological sensitivity that may be adversely affected by any change.
<purpose>1. Following designation as a CEA, the potential impact of any Type I or Unlisted Action on the environmental characteristics of the CEA is a relevant area of environmental concern and must be evaluated in the determination of significance prepared pursuant to Section 617.7 of SEQR.</purpose>
<supplinf>
1. Updated with new CEA's , Town of Dryden, Tompkins County on 20121001.
2. Polygons have not been digitized for all Critical Environmental Areas (CEA) because not all designating agencies have provided the needed information. However, the Theme Attribute Table contains entries for all CEAs, including those not yet digitized. A value of "Not Available" in the Attribute Table's COMMENT field indicates that a polygon is not present for that CEA while a blank record indicates that polygons have been digitized for those areas. pursuant to Section 617.7 of SEQR.

<idAbs>

</idAbs>
<idPurp>1. Following designation as a CEA, the potential impact of any Type I or Unlisted Action on the environmental characteristics of the CEA is a relevant area of environmental concern and must be evaluated in the determination of significance prepared pursuant to Section 617.7 of SEQR.</idPurp>
